Our Services

What is filmlocationstore.com?
Filmlocationstore.com is the first on-line professional community where location managers and their clients have an unlimited space to manage cinema, television and advertisement shooting locations images.
Filmlocationstore.com is a space where location managers can organize and classify their photographic stock in a simple way, making it accessible to their clients, improving locations images delivery and self-promoting their services worldwide.
Production managers can make free searches in a wide database of locations and professional location managers. They can as well create projects on-line that authorized production crewmembers might access anywhere in the world, from any computer connected to the Internet.
-
Why is filmlocationstore.com useful?
Filmlocationstore.com has two main functions:
1.- Provide location managers with a portal of high technological value with an unlimited online space for uploading, administrating, organizing, distributing and promoting locations of their area.
2.- Provide clients with a place where they can find worldwide locations in a simple and fast way, with the guarantee of contacting with professionals that will provide the necessary services to put a shooting in place (permits, accommodation, etc.)
Moreover, filmlocationstore.com is suitable to administer shooting projects in an online space, regardless of physical location of the crew and with complete time flexibility, being for instance able of reading art department notes or sharing a Project’s script at any time of the day.
-
What is our price politics based on?
Filmlocationstore bases its price politics (15 euros per location, 20 euros per on-line Project) in a previous wide market research of the audiovisual industry, in which our crewmembers contacted with worldwide location managers, production managers, photographers, producers, etc.
After studying research market data, it has been decided to choose a quantity that is affordable for production crews and that at the same time would benefit location managers as well as would allow system sustainability.
-
How do you treat content security and data use?
There are three security systems related with the content and its use. First of all, the system counts on backup servers using a server mirroring strategy: the primary server is mirrored by an identical server that daily creates and saves a security copy of the system content.
If for any reason the primary server fails, the backup server can immediately take its place and would keep offering the service without any down or problem for the user.
In second place, third parties information access security is protected thanks to a powerful security system and data cryptation that avoid and prevent potential attacks.
Lastly, filmlocationstore applies current legislation concerning personal data protection. Files will be accessible to registered users for modifications, both if they’re registered portal users and also if they are newsletter/info subscribers.
-
How does locations acquisition work?
Filmlocationstore doesn’t sell locations. It provides a service that allows production crews to access reference and draft images to use in the decision-making process of locations search by contacting with worldwide location managers.
Production departments can acquire locations obtained from the search by adding them to their shopping cart. Once the acquisition has been validated, they have access to images download, right to use them as reference or drafts, and location managers’ data (owners of locations’ images).
For his part, location manger receive an amount of 5 euro in his filmlocationstore account each time that a client acquires one of his locations, and can ask for a bank transfer once he has reached the amount of 100 euro (This amount has been decided taking into account international bank transfers costs).
-
How does invoicing work?
Invoicing is carried out automatically, since filmlocationstore has an on-line invoicing system that allows location mangers, as well as production departments to manage their invoices. In the same way, filmlocationstore has an administration department for administration maintenance and for managing any necessity on this topic.
-
Can I work in my own language?
In this moment the system is available in English and Spanish, little by little we’ll include more languages. However, you can work with this tool in your own language at the moment of writing private and public notes, and also when you search locations by using the “free text” tool. Naturally, if you also write your locations notes in English, you’ll have the opportunity to reach a higher number of people.
-
I found a picture in filmlocationstore. Can I use it?
You can only use a picture you found in filmlocationstore if you first validate your acquisition, and as long as you observe the norm of using it exclusively for drafts or references.
Since when you acquire a location you also acquire the location manager’s data (the owner of the picture), if you wish you might directly contact him/her to extend your acquisition rights. You can get more information about authors’ rights in the legal terms section.
-
I forgot my password!
Go to the My Account section to request a new password.
-
How can I change my password?
You only have to access the My Account section, and in the Edit Profile sub-section you’ll be able to create a new password.
-
How can I see my purchases record?
In order to access your purchases record you must access the My Account area and go to My Purchases: you’ll find a list with thumbnails of all the locations you acquired since the creation of your account, acquisitions amount and information links.
-
How can I see my sale record?
In order to access your sale record you must access the My Account area and go to My Sales: you’ll find a list with thumbnails of all the locations you sold since the creation of your account, sales amount, days of acquisition, as well as your cumulated amount in order to request a bank transfer.
-
Where do I find the Card Verification Value (CVV) of my credit card?
The Card Verification Value of your credit card is the final group of numbers (3-digit code) printed on the back signature panel of your card. If you don’t find this information, check it with your bank.
-
I’ve seen images on the web that are not locations, what can I do?
If you found images that are not locations you can contact us at info at filmlocationstore.com and tell us the locations code so that we can undertake the necessary actions.
Location manager
-
How will clients know who is the owner of a picture?
Clients will know your data at the moment of validating their transaction in the system. At that point they’ll be able to view bigger size locations images and a post-it with your name, telephone number and e-mail address.
-
Is it possible to access location managers’ contact data through the web?
Your data are associated to all the locations you uploaded in the system, whether they are public or private. Your potential clients have access to your contact data only after acquiring one of your locations.
-
How can I restrict public access to a limited part of my locations information?
Locations information access is already restricted: your potential clients will view images at a reduced size (302 pixels long) and will only know the approximate area of the geographic position.
For instance, exact addresses of your locations or housing owner contacts are only accessible to you.
Moreover, you can decide to make your locations private (only accessible to you) at any time. You can also decide to make a selection of your locations public (accessible through the search tool) to seize the opportunity of finding new clients through filmlocationstore. In conclusion, you can change the status of your locations at any time, making them public or private, depending on yours necessities.
-
How many pictures or locations can I upload for free?
We offer you a completely free unlimited web space so that you’ll be able to upload your locations images for free. You won’t have to start paying after a certain space limit or a certain number of photos you uploaded.
-
What is the mandatory/recommended size to upload pictures?
The ideal size for the system to work correctly would be to have pictures of 450 pixels long (and the correspondent measure wide), with 72 points of resolution. However, the system is prepared to compress and resize images if they exceed this size. Images can be visualized in the four following sizes:
a)Location images thumbnails (103 pixels on the longest side)
b)Location images thumbnails (194 pixels on the longest side)
c)Main images and visualization pop-ups (302 pixels on the longest side)
d)Acquired and downloaded location images (2240 pixels on the longest side)
-
Do images have watermarks or some location manager’s identification?
No, images have neither watermarks nor location manager’s identification because before acquisition pictures size is very small and not suitable for pre-production development.
Clients do not have access to the location manager’s data until they acquire a location. Moreover, we deactivated the right button functions in all browsers, in order to avoid images download.
-
I don’t want my locations to be accessible to everyone. What can I do?
It’s up to you. You can decide to make all your locations private at any time. If you do that, you can redirect your clients to the filmlocationstore portal so that they can acquire a Project, where you can add the locations they are looking for. Nonetheless, if you make your locations public, you’ll increase your opportunities to get new clients. In order to accomplish this goal, we recommend you keeping your locations public at any time.
-
Does Filmlocationstore substitute my webpage?
Filmlocationstore doesn’t substitute your webpage. It works as a meeting point between you and your clients, and at the same time it provides a useful and simple tool to organize your daily work.
Our several research markets and opinion polls showed that worldwide production crews spend too much time in finding locations, mainly for two reasons: either they first search among thousands of webpages and then send emails to request the location they need, or, they search in several directories and film commissions to find the adequate professionals for their projects. These two reasons directly affect effectiveness and time dedicated to this task.
-
Can I give to my client the possibility to access my private section?
Your client must acquire a private section called “Project” where you can add your locations in a simple way. For clients those locations won’t have any cost, because we believe that you’ve your own service tariff and we understand that a client has previously hired you. For you this will make it easier to deliver your locations images to clients, while your clients will also have other benefits by using a Project.
-
How do I know if they are searching my images?
You won’t know when people search your images, but you’ll know if and when people acquire your images in the My Sales section. Here you’ll be able to view acquisition days and the accumulated amount of locations sales you made through filmlocationstore.
-
How do I receive a payment for my locations?
Every time that a client acquires one of your locations, 5 euros will be accumulated in your account in the section my sales. Once you accumulate 100 €, you'll be able to request a bank transfer and you’ll receive the amount directly in your bank account.
-
What happens with images authors’ rights?
Images authors’ rights keep being of your property. When you sell a location you only transfer the right to use your images as reference or drafts. Clients will have to contact you to request an extension of these rights. You can check the legal terms section for more information on this topic.
-
My client asked me for a location of which I have no images. I’d like my client to be the only one to view it. Is it possible?
Yes, it’s possible. You only need to create a new location and add it to your client’s Project. In this way, as long as you keep the location private, no one else will be able to view it. This procedure is also very useful to respect rights of some housing owners.
-
If I keep all my locations public, isn’t it going to damage me economically?
No. If you have public locations you’ll have the opportunity to contact with more clients, since locations will be accessible through the search tool.
-
What happens if some locations are duplicated?
We made tests and they all indicate that producers tend to select locations images with the best photographic qualities and with the most professional descriptions.
PRODUCTION
-
How can I know a location manager’s data?
Once you validate your location acquisition, we’ll communicate to you the location manager contact data (owner of the location images) that include name, telephone and e-mail.
-
Do I need a location manager authorization to access locations data on-line?
Every location has private and public data. Private data are only accessible to the owner of the pictures, while public data are accessible both to owners and to users that search locations or receive them in their Project on-line.
-
Do I have free access to all the information in the Web?
In filmlocationstore you have free access to all locations saved as public in the system. However, information and locations images size are limited and you must acquire them to know the location manager data (the owner of the pictures). Each location has a cost of 15 euros.
On the other hand, you can organize your options for each set, by acquiring a Project on-line. Once you have bought a Project you’ll be able to link locations of your interest to it. Your location manager can also add his locations suggestions, adapting them to your necessities. You’ll be able to know the opinion of your crewmembers as well, regardless of where in the world they are. Each project has a cost of 20 euro and it expires after 90 days.
-
In what format can I get locations pictures?
We usually work with .jpg format. In the system you’ll find several image visualization sizes:
a) Location images thumbnails (147 pixels wide)
b) Location images thumbnails (261 pixels wide)
c) Main location images and display pop-ups (450 pixels wide)
d) Acquired and downloaded locations (2240 pixels wide)
-
Do images have watermarks or some location manager’s identification?
No, images have neither watermarks nor location manager’s identification because pictures size before acquisition is very small and not suitable for pre-production development.
You don’t have access to the location manager data until you acquire the location. This acquisition gives you only the rights to use images as reference or drafts, so that it is your responsibility not using them for other purposes. Moreover, we deactivated the right button functions in all browsers, in order to avoid images download.
-
Does Filmlocationstore substitute my location manager?
No, filmlocationstore doesn’t substitute your location manager. Filmlocationstore gives you the opportunity of contacting with worldwide professionals, on a single web space. Moreover, we offer you different tools such as Projects on-line that allow you to work with your crewmembers wherever in the world they are. Your location managers can also add locations to your on-line project.
-
Can the location manager offer me access to a private section?
A private section is what we call Project. An on-line Project allows you to administer sets for your next production by linking locations to it, receiving advices from your crew and the location manager you hire.
In order to do this, you must acquire an on-line project, that will only cost you 20 euros and that expires after 90 days. This project allows you to upload your Project’s script and to create as many sets folder as you wish. At the same time, you can share your Project (offering to someone else the responsibility to administer the project with you, never to buy it) or invite your crewmembers that will be able to link locations, allowing you to take better-informed decisions for each set.
We make an example for you to better understand: if Peter, the location manager, works with you every time you go to Argentina, you can invite him to join your Project to allow him to link his offers to it. However, at the same time, one member of your crew found a perfect location for set number 3 and has added it to your Project. Once you buy the locations images, you discover that behind that location there is Juan, another location managers, with who you can contact and request an update of images or new options. Easy, isn’t it?
LOCATIONS UPLOAD
-
In what file format should I upload images?
Even though filmlocationstore admits almost every image file format, the system works much more effectively if you work with .jpg. You can upload images in different formats, but you must consider that uploading time is going to be longer because the system will have to convert the format of your pictures in .jpg
-
How do I upload my locations pictures?
To upload your locations pictures you must follow these steps:
First of all organize your locations
Step 1. Check that all the images of your locations are in .jpg format.
Step 2. Save all the images of a single location in one folder and give the name of the location to it. Example “My house”.
Step 3. Group a maximum of 50 folders/locations in a .zip file (If you don’t have a zip compressor you can download it here (http://www.softonic.com/s/compresores-zip). All these folders should share some common categories. For instance, create a .zip file with all the locations of “interior”; “housing” and “Mexico”.
Then upload your locations
Step 1. Select the .zip file in your computer through the button “Browse”
Step 2. Select the Country and the common categories that better describe your locations. We advise you to choose general categories that describe the whole block of locations you are uploading. Examples “Beach”
Step 3. Click “Upload file” and be patient. The system will show a sending report when the upload is over.
Step 4. Now you can choose to edit the images you just uploaded or to go on uploading files using the button “Upload another file”. You will be able to activate as many uploads as you wish at the same time.
-
Will my pictures be deleted at same point?
As long as you don’t want to delete them, the system will host them. This of course excludes the cases in which you don’t fulfil our service conditions. For instance, you can upload only shooting locations for cinema, TV and commercials. If you upload different pictures we will delete them.
-
Is that a maximum number of images I can upload?
No, there is no maximum number of pictures. You can upload as many locations as you want.
-
Are there any size limit in files and folders to upload?
Yes. We fixed a limit of 20 images per location and of 50 locations (maximum) per .zip file. In this way we can avoid possible portal access problems if there are many uploads at the same time.
About files sizes: the system will resize images of bigger size and these are the types of images you’ll have access to:
a) Location images thumbnails (147 pixels wide)
b) Location images thumbnails (261 pixels wide)
c) Main location image and display pop-up (450 pixels wide)
d) Acquired and downloaded locations (2240 pixels wide)
-

Yes. In the location edition screen you have icons that will allow you to delete images. They will as well allow you to add new images to update your location or offering to your client the requested frame.
-
How many locations can I have in each folder?
After testing the system, we saw that in order for the system to work properly and with maximum effectiveness, the average number of locations per .zip file must be of 50 to offer enough upload speed and system agility. Each location folder can contain a maximum of 20 images. Check the upload rates.
-
Can I publish in my webpage the same images I uploaded in filmlocationstore?
Your locations are only yours. You can publish or upload your locations wherever you want.
-
How do I protect author’s right of my pictures?
Filmlocationstore protects author’s rights of your pictures thanks to the service user conditions contract that all users must sign, as well as the acquisitions terms accepted by the client, that clearly specify that location acquisition allows them to use images exclusively as reference or drafts, and that author’s right stay in the hands of the owner.
-
Can I substitute location images and keep using old public and private note?
Yes, you can update images if you want. In the locations editing screen you are able to modify text, data, images order, etc., in a separate way.
-
¿Can I make private a public location?
If you wish, you can change a location status. Remember, that for a location to be public you must fill in some required data, such as a google map position, categories tree selection or public notes.
-
Can I link private locations to my clients’ Projects?
Yes. If your client sends you an invitation you can link any locations of the system to his Project. Filmlocationstore helps you to protect locations owners’ rights, by allowing you to give your images directly to your clients.
-
I cannot make public a location I’ve just uploaded. Why?
Check whether you edited a google maps location, public notes, and the location country. These are the required data to be able to publish a location.
-
What is the “categories tree”?
The categories tree is a way to organize categories that describe a location and allows the system and the search tool to organize locations on the base of these parameters. For instance, if you have a location that shows a beach, you might select the categories “exterior”, “beach”, “creek”, “warm climate”, etc. The categories tree will help you to organize these parameters and make your location more accessible through the search tool. The more you carefully define categories of your locations, the more your clients will easily find your locations.
-
Why are tree categories useful?
Tree categories are useful to better define the characteristics of the location you just uploaded at filmlocationstore. For instance, you can find categories such as “interior” and “exterior”, “architecture types”, “road types”, “beach types”, etc. This is a simple way to link certain characteristics to your location, which are the same characteristics that clients use to search locations.
-
How can I change the title of my location?
To change a location title you must access the section Manage and open the location you want to edit. In the section private notes, you’ll find a field called title. Enter the new one and remember to save your changes.
-
Why do I see some locations with a code title and some other with a text title?
All the locations you see with a title are the locations uploaded in the portal by yourself. All the other locations have a default code given by the system to avoid errors and duplications. Access the section Manage to modify the titles you wish.
ON-LINE PROJECT
-
What is a Project?
A project is an online workspace to manage all the proposed locations for a production.
-
How does a Project work?
You should create a “New project” in the “Project” screen, specifying a Project name and the number of sets. Once you created it and bought it, you’ll have access to the options of inviting or sharing for which you’ll have to set a password, as well as insert the list of crewmembers you want to participate in your Project online.
-
What can be included in a Project?
- Project’s description:
- Project’s title
- Reference image of the Project
- General notes: Director, Production company, Client, shooting date…
- Script / Story Board.
- Set list:
- Reference image for each set
- Sets name
- In each set you’ll find as many locations proposals as have been added to it.
- Project’s description:
Who can access a Project?
A Project is a service offered to producers, and it has been thought to make the process of preparation before shooting as easy as possible. The information included in each Project is completely private and the access is password protected. The owner of a Project can “invite” or “share”, depending on the degree of privilege that you wish to give to each technician:
“Invite”: you’ll be able to access a Project from the Project screen (without the necessity of being logged in). You’ll have to insert the Project name and your guest password in the paragraph “Guest Access”. An invited guest will be able to:
- Check Project’s content.
- Add notes.
“Share”: you’ll be able to access a Project through the main page general log in, by using the username and password that you received by mail. This password will expire at the same time of the Project to which it refers. The privileges of members who share a Project are:
- Check Project’s content
- Edit any Project’s data, including the possibility of deleting/modifying locations proposals.
What advantages does a Project offer to me?
A Project at Filmlocationstore gives you the advantage of being able to work online with your real audiovisual project. This is useful most of all when part of your crew is located somewhere else in the world. Moreover it makes the whole sets/locations proposal process easier.
-
Do I need to create an account to access a project as a guest?
No, it’s not necessary. The Project’s owner has sent you an invitation to allow you to access the Project without the necessity to create a Filmlocationstore account. Access the section Project to use your guest Project password.
-
How long do Project invitations last?
Projects expire in 90 days. A guest password will work from the day you create a Project until the day it expires. In the Project’s main screen you can check how many days are left for the Project to expire.
-
How can I share a project?
In order to share a Project, you must click the button “share”. You’ll find in the main screen of your Project. When you create a password, you’ll be able to give your Project’s data to the crewmembers you want. Remember that when you share a Project, you are also sharing all the privileges of the Project, excluded the locations and Projects acquisition that will be of your exclusive privilege.
-
What is the difference between sharing and inviting?
When you share a Project you allow another crewmember to manage the Project as if it was you, or manage it together. This gives him the possibility to upload a Project’s script, choose set reference images and send invitations to crewmembers.
When you invite someone to your Project, you provide your crewmembers with an external key that will allow them to check sets and script, link locations and give their opinions over the available options.
-
My production crew doesn’t receive my Project invitation. Why?
You should create a new invitation. It may be that you filled in an incorrect email address. If the problem persists, please contact the Filmlocationstore system administration.
-
I accidentally deleted the e-mail with my guest password. How can I recover it?
You must contact the Project’s responsible and tell him to re-send you a guest password, or to use the password modification tool to create a new one to send you.
-
In what file format can I upload a script?
Scripts can be uploaded in the format file you wish, since the system will only save the file you uploaded. However, you must consider using a format file that your crewmembers can correctly view once they download it.
-
Reference image for Projects and sets: what size and file format should I use?
Choose the picture you like the most to use as reference in a Project and in sets folders. The system will then create an image thumbnail to show. The most recommendable format file is .jpg or .gif
-
How do I delete my account?
Filmlocationstore doesn’t give you any on-line way to delete your account, but you can request it at any time by sending an e-mail at info@filmlocationstore.com
-
When does my Project expire?
A Project expires in 90 days from the acquisition date. However, the system will keep your Project’s information stored for 15 days after expiration to give you the opportunity to renew it for other 3 months.
